'Plant Based Board' - Uraidla Hotel

Firstly, I really enjoyed this share platter tasting board. Secondly, the menu states that, amongst marinated olives and spicy nuts, this board contains ‘Zaatar Coco Labne’ and I just want to say that I really think she should have won Eurovision this year.

The Uraidla Hotel really does seem like a lovely spot. To set the scene, we ate outside (my wife, my two children, and I) and in between my daughter playing on the quaint swing set and slide, she also was able to help feed a baby goat wearing a nappy that a family had brought along because, well, it’s THAT sort of pub.

The Plant Based Board featured some strong tastes, as tasting boards tend to, and that plays right up my alley. My wife hates olives so I had them all to myself, and it’s amazing how hard it is to tell that you’ve had more olives than is socially acceptable until you notice the huge pile of pits dripping in your own saliva that has accumulated.

There was a mushroom truffle pate which went well with the quite delicious charred bread. Pickled pipparas were a burst of tangy sour to counteract the salt, and the smoked beets were also a highlight, also pickled.

I liked it here. ‘Rustic chic’ is the phrase that keeps coming to mind, but I think that’s because I’m a fuckwit. Either way, despite there not being a huge selection of vegan options on the menu, it’s a place I’d like to come back to to spend a leisurely afternoon with some of my fuckwit friends.
