It’s been a long time between entries in this here blog, and that’s because I now have a second child, a full time job, I haven’t slept for a year and a half, and I’ve lost the ability to construct sentences. Apart from that one. In fact, all my brain power has been dedicated to make this opening paragraph comprehendible, and using words like comprehendible means that I may have a breakdown at ab8 secni= nhhhhhhhhhh

Eggplant Stir Fry with Long Beans and Thai Basil

My wife and I managed to get away for the night and we decided to try the restaurant aptly named Fire, as it represents our lives perfectly. Not in the ‘this thing is fire’ positive sense, or the ‘he’s on fire!’ NBA Jam sense, but in the meme of the cartoon dog sitting at his kitchen table amidst flames licking at his flanks saying ‘this is fine’ in denial sense.

This eggplant dish is ok. I also had a green curry and that was a good example of a green curry, but I’ve reviewed green curries before. This dish is a sweet and slightly sour stir fry style dish with a small hint of spice. All the ‘s’s. I have to admit, one of the ‘s’s the eggplant wasn’t was ‘silky’ which was a Shame, but only necessarily for my personal taste and palette which is, as previously confessed, unSophisticated.

The sweetness of the sauce was a surprise, with suspected tamarind flavours running through it, which also gave it a slightly sour tartness. This combined with the spice and the salty crunch of the fried onion gives this dish quite a good balance, but I just couldn’t get totally on board with the surprising large chunks of eggplant. But I did order a dish called ‘Eggplant’, so I’m probably partially to blame.

In case you were wondering, my wife and I booked a hotel room for the night to round out a perfect date night without the kids, if you know what I mean. And by that I mean after dinner we bought chips and chocolate and fell asleep watching a movie at about 9pm. Bliss.
